Sandbags & Ballast includes portable weights used with compatible event equipment where additional base weight or stabilization is part of the intended setup.
They may be used with suitable:
backdrop stands;
pipe & drape systems;
display stands;
banner stands;
lighting stands;
temporary event equipment;
other portable bases and supports designed for ballast use.
This category is intended for DJs, decorators, exhibitors, event companies and small rental businesses that need practical reusable weights around portable event setups.
The correct buying sequence is:
equipment → base/support design → application → indoor/outdoor conditions → manufacturer's setup requirement → suitable ballast
Ballast should be selected around the equipment—not added afterward as a universal fix.
Different event products may use different forms of portable ballast.
Sandbags can provide a simple movable weight for compatible stands and bases.
Other ballast weights may use a more rigid or equipment-specific design.
The better option depends on:
equipment type;
base design;
available attachment or placement position;
transport requirements;
setup environment.
Do not assume every sandbag or ballast weight can be used with every stand.
Before choosing ballast, identify exactly what it will be used with.
Check:
equipment type;
model or dimensions;
base design;
height;
attached equipment or material;
indoor or outdoor use;
manufacturer's instructions.
This is especially important for products carrying banners, curtains, graphics or other surfaces that may be affected by air movement.
A heavier ballast product is not automatically the correct solution.
Its effectiveness also depends on factors such as:
where the ballast is positioned;
how it interfaces with the base;
equipment geometry;
setup height;
attached surface area;
actual site conditions.
For this reason, DragonEvent should not recommend ballast simply by saying:
“Use X kg for this height.”
unless that value is specifically supported by the product/system specification.
For suitable indoor portable equipment, ballast may be used where additional base weight is part of the intended configuration.
Typical applications may include:
photo backdrops;
wedding decorations;
exhibition displays;
portable stands;
temporary partitions.
Before ordering, check how many bases or stands are used and whether each position requires its own weight.
For example, a system with several independent support points may require ballast planning at each relevant support rather than simply calculating one total weight for the entire setup.
Outdoor applications should not be treated as indoor setups with “a few more sandbags.”
Wind acting on:
curtains;
banners;
backdrops;
signs;
large display surfaces
can substantially change the forces acting on a portable setup.
Do not assume that adding an arbitrary amount of ballast makes equipment suitable for outdoor wind exposure.
Where the setup involves significant wind exposure, large surface areas, unusual height or a larger temporary structure, the requirement should move beyond ordinary accessory selection and be reviewed for the actual application.
Ballast is useful because of its weight—but that same weight affects transport.
For mobile DJs and rental companies, consider:
weight per unit;
number of units;
vehicle capacity;
loading and unloading;
storage;
whether the ballast is transported filled or empty, where applicable.
For example, an empty-fillable solution and a permanently weighted product may create very different transport requirements even when both serve a similar setup function.
Do not calculate quantity only from the total weight you want to add.
First determine:
number of support points → ballast requirement at each relevant point → number of ballast units
If a product manufacturer specifies a particular ballast arrangement, follow that arrangement.
If no verified requirement is available, provide the equipment information and actual setup conditions rather than guessing a quantity from height alone.
For a new event setup, the sensible sequence is:
choose the stand/display/backdrop → understand its base configuration → identify whether ballast is required → select compatible ballast
This prevents a common buying mistake:
purchasing a lightweight stand first and then trying to solve every stability problem by continuously adding weight.
Sometimes the correct answer is not more ballast—it may be a different base or a different support system.
If you are unsure which ballast product is appropriate, send us:
equipment type + base photo/dimensions + setup height + attached item/material + indoor/outdoor use + quantity
For outdoor applications, also describe the actual event environment.
This gives us enough information to determine whether ordinary ballast selection is appropriate or whether the setup needs more specific review.
