Flight Cases for DJ, Sound, Lighting and Event Equipment

Flight cases provide reusable transport and storage protection for equipment that is frequently moved between warehouses, vehicles and event venues.

They are commonly used for:

  • DJ equipment;

  • mixers and audio equipment;

  • amplifiers and processors;

  • lighting fixtures;

  • controllers;

  • cables and accessories;

  • other portable event equipment.

DragonEvent offers flight cases in plywood, PE and ABS constructions, giving buyers different options according to the equipment being protected, transport requirements, case size and frequency of use.

The first buying question should therefore not simply be:

“What size case do I need?”

A better sequence is:

equipment → protection requirement → case material → internal size → internal layout → handling requirements

Choose the Flight Case Material

Plywood, PE and ABS cases should not be treated as three names for exactly the same product.

They give buyers different construction options.

Plywood Flight Cases

Plywood flight cases are a traditional professional option for event equipment and can be configured around many different equipment shapes and sizes.

They are commonly considered for:

  • audio equipment;

  • lighting fixtures;

  • DJ equipment;

  • rack equipment;

  • larger or customized event equipment.

Plywood construction is especially useful where the case itself needs to be configured around a specific piece or group of equipment.

PE Flight Cases

PE flight cases use polyethylene-based construction and provide another option for portable equipment protection.

They may suit buyers who specifically want a PE-based case and can find a size and internal configuration that matches their equipment.

When comparing PE cases, check:

  • internal dimensions;

  • external dimensions;

  • internal protection;

  • closure and handle arrangement;

  • wheel configuration where applicable.

ABS Flight Cases

ABS flight cases provide a third construction option for protecting and transporting event equipment.

As with PE and plywood cases, suitability should be judged from the actual case construction and the equipment being protected rather than from the material name alone.

Check:

  • equipment dimensions;

  • required internal space;

  • case construction;

  • internal padding or support;

  • carrying and transport requirements.

Plywood vs. PE vs. ABS: Which Should You Choose?

For a DragonEvent buyer, the decision can start simply:

Material

A useful starting point

Plywood

Traditional professional flight-case construction, especially where customized configurations are useful

PE

PE-based case construction where an available model fits the equipment and transport requirement

ABS

ABS-based case construction where the available size and configuration suit the equipment

The important point is:

Material is one buying factor—not the entire specification.

Two cases made from the same material can still differ substantially in dimensions, internal protection, hardware, handling and intended use.

Measure the Equipment Before Choosing the Case

Do not select a flight case only from the equipment's product name.

Measure the actual:

length × width × height

and check whether anything protrudes from the equipment, including:

  • handles;

  • knobs;

  • connectors;

  • brackets;

  • antennas;

  • permanently installed accessories.

The case needs suitable internal dimensions, including whatever internal protection or clearance is required.

Do not compare the equipment dimensions only with the external dimensions of the case.

One Case for One Item or Several?

Some equipment is best protected individually.

Other products may be transported efficiently in multi-unit cases.

Before choosing, consider:

  • equipment quantity;

  • individual equipment weight;

  • how often each unit is unloaded;

  • whether all units are normally used together;

  • vehicle space;

  • storage space.

For example, placing several lighting fixtures in one case may reduce the number of separate boxes, but it also creates a larger and heavier case.

The best configuration is the one that matches how the equipment is actually transported and used.

Think About the Inside of the Case

The outer shell is only part of the buying decision.

The internal arrangement may need to:

  • position the equipment;

  • separate multiple units;

  • protect vulnerable areas;

  • provide room for accessories;

  • limit unnecessary movement during transport.

For a customized case, provide the equipment model, dimensions, photos and quantity.

Wheels, Handles and Repeated Handling

For event and rental companies, a flight case may repeatedly travel through:

warehouse → vehicle → loading area → venue → working position

Depending on the case, practical features may include:

  • handles;

  • wheels or casters;

  • stacking arrangement;

  • closures;

  • corner protection;

  • labeling areas.

A case should not only fit the equipment. It should also fit the way the team moves it.

Flight Case or Protective Bag?

Not every piece of event equipment needs a rigid flight case.

Choose a flight case when more substantial reusable transport protection is appropriate.

A protective cover or bag may make more sense where the equipment mainly needs lighter protection during storage or normal local transport.

The right choice depends on the equipment, vulnerability and actual handling conditions.

What Should You Tell Us Before Buying?

For a standard or customized flight case, send us:

equipment type + model + length × width × height + quantity + preferred plywood / PE / ABS construction + transport requirements

If the equipment has an unusual shape, include photos.

This allows the case to be selected around the actual equipment rather than guessed from the product name.
